Moving is always a challenge. Even a happy move into a dream house is likely to be somewhat stressful. Packing, lifting, loading, transportation, unloading...it can seem unending. Luckily, there are ways to make moving easier.
How to Simplify a Residential Move
There are a few steps anyone can take to make the moving process easier. These tips work well for any move. From dorms to the family home for the summer, or for baby boomers looking to downsize, the advice is all the same.
Deep Cleaning: It's important to downsize where possible. Almost every household has more possessions than the people there realize. In the weeks leading up to the move, go through each room thoughtfully. Consider when the items in a room or closet were last used. If those cookie cutters haven't come out of the drawer in over a year, maybe it's time to gift them to a friend. Or find a residential storage service.
Careful Packing: Packing is always a pain. Boxes, paper and bubblewrap can be expensive. Labeling is no fun, either. Find creative shortcuts to minimize waste and expense. For example, wrap plates in t-shirts or dishtowels. This kills two birds with one stone, and limits the number of boxes needed.
Get Help: Most importantly, get help if needed. Professionals are reliable and experienced. Friends may resent being asked, or they may have to drop the moving project when work schedules change. Professional movers also have lots of experience handling delicate materials.
